Getting Started & Brewing Ingredients
What do I need to start brewing beer at home?
A basic setup includes a brewing kettle, fermenter with an airlock, cleaner and sanitizer, beer ingredients, and a way to bottle or keg the finished beer. A hydrometer helps you track fermentation. Brew Fort can help you choose a beginner beer kit and a setup that fits your space, budget, and batch size.
Can I make beer in a small space?
Yes. You don’t need a garage full of equipment to start homebrewing. Small-batch brewing uses less storage space and smaller vessels. Ask us about small-batch beer kits and compact equipment for apartments, smaller kitchens, and other limited spaces.
Where can I buy brewing grains and malt in Fort Collins?
Brew Fort carries base malts, specialty malts, roasted grains, flaked grains, and other brewing grains. Buy by the ounce or pound, or ask about full bags. We also carry liquid malt extract (LME) and dry malt extract (DME) for extract brewing and recipe adjustments.
Does Brew Fort mill brewing grain?
Yes. We offer free in-house milling for grain purchased at Brew Fort. Bring your recipe or grain list and tell us whether you’d like the grains combined or packaged separately. You can also purchase grain whole if you prefer to mill it yourself.
Where can I buy fresh brewing yeast locally?
Brew Fort carries liquid and dry brewing yeast, plus options for wine, cider, mead, and other fermentation projects. Our liquid brewing yeast is shipped cold and stored refrigerated. Contact us to check a specific strain or get help choosing a suitable alternative.
Does Brew Fort sell hops for homebrewing?
Yes. We carry hops for bittering, flavor, and aroma, including pellet hops and selected whole-cone varieties. Tell us your beer style, recipe, and preferred flavors, and we’ll help you choose. Availability changes, so contact us if you’re looking for a particular variety.
Can Brew Fort help me choose ingredients or substitute something in a recipe?
Yes. Bring your beer, wine, cider, or mead recipe and we’ll help you choose grains, hops, yeast, sugars, and other ingredients. If an item is unavailable, we can discuss alternatives and how they may affect flavor, color, or fermentation.
Do you sell brewing cleaners and sanitizers?
Yes. Brew Fort carries PBW, Star San, SaniClean, One Step, iodophor, and BLC. Cleaning removes residue; sanitizing treats already-clean equipment to reduce unwanted microorganisms. Tell us what you’re cleaning and we’ll help you select the appropriate product. Always follow its label directions.
Read our cleaning and sanitizing guide.
Can I buy brewing sugars, yeast nutrients, and water treatment salts?
Yes. We carry ingredients such as dextrose, malt extract, Belgian candi sugar and syrups, yeast nutrients, and brewing salts. Whether you’re feeding a mead fermentation, making hard seltzer, adjusting brewing water, or finishing a beer recipe, ask us about the right ingredients for your batch.
CO₂, Kegs & Kegerators
Where can I get a CO₂ tank refilled in Fort Collins?
Brew Fort offers food-grade CO₂ refills and exchange options for homebrewing, kegerators, and beverage carbonation. Bring your cylinder to our Fort Collins shop. Most fills can be completed while you wait; contact us if you have questions about your tank.
What sizes of CO₂ tanks does Brew Fort fill?
We fill CO₂ tanks and canisters of all sizes. If you have an unusual cylinder or connection, call ahead with the details so we can confirm what’s needed. We can also discuss refill versus exchange options for your tank.
Can I buy a full CO₂ tank, nitrogen, or beer gas?
Yes. Brew Fort sells CO₂ tanks filled and ready to use and offers nitrogen and beer gas blends for suitable draft systems. Ask about available tank sizes, gas options, regulators, and connections for your setup.
Where can I buy kegerator parts and kegging supplies locally?
Brew Fort carries beer and gas tubing, regulators, faucets, shanks, fittings, ball-lock and pin-lock disconnects, cleaning supplies, and other draft system components. Bring your part, a photo, or the equipment model so we can help identify a compatible replacement.
Can Brew Fort help repair or set up my kegerator?
Yes. We help with kegerator setup, draft system repairs, and troubleshooting problems such as foamy pours, flat beer, gas leaks, and worn components. We can help you choose tubing, check connections, and balance the system. Contact us to discuss your equipment and the work it needs.
Why is my kegerator pouring foamy beer?
Common causes include warm beer, unsuitable serving pressure, an unbalanced beer line, dirty components, or a warm faucet. Elevation can also affect the pressure needed to maintain carbonation. Tell us your beer temperature, pressure setting, and tubing size and length, and we’ll help you work through the likely causes.
Can I use kegging equipment to make sparkling water or soda?
Yes. A suitable keg, food-grade CO₂, regulator, and cold storage can be used to carbonate water and other beverages. Brew Fort carries carbonation equipment and ingredients for homemade sparkling mineral water, seltzer, and soda. We can help you choose a setup for the drink you want to make.

Can I rent brewing equipment, a fruit press, or a kegerator?
Yes. Brew Fort rents fruit crushers and presses, grape destemming and crushing equipment, kegerators, CO₂ party setups, party pumps, floor corkers, bench cappers, electric brewing equipment, CO₂ tanks, and more. Call to confirm availability, rental terms, and reservations for your dates.
